Milton Flood Group

The first meeting of the Milton Flood Group (MAFIA - Milton Anti Flood In Action) took place on Saturday 18 April at Millbrook House.
It was attended by Simon, Helen, Margaret and Chloe Glazebrook, Patrick and Pam Shealy, Joy Browning and Robert Fyfe (with apologies from Clinton Winfield and Lucy Waldron)
By forming a Flood Group we can apply for funding to help resolve any problem areas we can identify but there is a time limit of 30 June 2009.
We discussed the ditch in the High Street and the field behind 102 and 104 High Street.  Work has since commenced on clearing the ditch.  Hopefully this will now drain the field which, according to the Environment Agency is the flood plain for the stream.
It was also noted that the Lagoon off the slip road from the A34 was being cleared.
The Moor Ditch down Pembroke Lane is flowing well since Simon cleared it but the culvert at the bottom does restrict the flow.  This needs looking into with Highways.
The following actions were decided:
1.       We would write to the Environment Agency for a map of the area showing which streams and tributaries they are responsible for and who is responsible for the remainder.
2.      We would get in touch with Mr McKenna of Drayton Golf Course to get him involved as the Ginge Brook borders the golf course.
3.      The Mill Pond at Milton Mill needs restoring and due to its historic interest, perhaps English Heritage might help with funding.
4.      The land behind Havers Avenue is another problem area.  We need to involve the landowner - Grove Farm
5.      We would contact Steventon Flood Group as the Ginge Brook affects both villages.
The next meeting will be on Saturday 13 June - 11am at Millbrook House – the coffee pot and kettle will be on!
Anyone affected by flooding or just interested in helping are invited to join us.

Just something else which crossed my mind... do we need to have a real time live chat on this site? will we have enough enthusiasts to participate in it?
